The Media Player Interface

Overview

The Media Player interface is designed to be unobtrusive and yet stylish and highly functional. Using this interface you can open a file for playing, search through to find the scene you want to watch, capture a still frame and use all of the playback control functions.

Two types of file can be opened with the Media Player: MPEG2 files and Transport Stream files.

MPEG2 files are those produced when a programme has been recorded to the disk, while Transport Stream files are special recordings that can be made that contain all of the programmes in any given multiplex. You can record and replay Transport Streams from within DigiTV - see the Recording Settings and Media Player Settings sections.

Tip: Bring up the Media Player window at any time by hitting the space bar on your keyboard, or get rid of it using the remote control with the Exit key

The Display

The Media Player window display shows the current status of what's happening at any moment in time. If you're watching TV it will show the Channel number, Name, Programme Name and Description depending on your selections in Settings.

If you're playing back a recording, it will show the name of the recorded file.

The times on the second line will show the start and stop times of the current TV programme, or other timing information depending on the mode that you're in at the time. For example, if you are recording a programme the time will show how long the recording has left to go.

The Controls
The button cluster on the left of the window is to allow control over common functions such as the current channel, audio volume and Digital Teletext navigation.

The coloured buttons for the text controls correspond to the colours seen when viewing a navigation bar on a Teletext page, including the now familiar 'Red Button'.

Play in rewind. Hit the button repeatedly to fast forward x2, x4, x6, x8, x16 and x32 (x6 and upwards will only work on PCs with powerful CPUs). Audio is muted.

Searching for a Scene

At the bottom of the controls window there is a blue ball indicating the how far through the file the playback has progressed.

You can drag the pointer on the bar to anywhere along its length and the DigiTV display will show the picture at that point in the file. Once you have reached the place from which you want to start viewing, just hit the Play button.
