Remote Control

DigiTV is shipped with a Nebula Electronics Remote control unit that can control just about any aspect of the DigiTV application that you'd want to control at a distance.

However, DigiTV can also be used with a universal Digital 4/6-way Remote control from OneForAll. These devices have been designed so that they will not only operate DigiTV, but can take the place of all the other remote controls in your house as well.


Why Use a Remote Control With a Computer?

Good question. After all, you’re sitting at the keyboard with a mouse close to hand, why should you want a remote control?

The answer is simple. Computers are becoming more and more like total entertainment systems rather than devices used to perform individual functions – especially in the home. DigiTV has been designed with the home user in mind where the computer is perhaps not locked away in a room by itself, but maybe in a child’s bedroom, or the living room. Consider also the student who, away from home has access to a PC, but no TV.

In these cases, it would be extremely tiresome to have to get up from wherever you’re sitting just to change the channel or alter the volume. This is where the remote control comes into its own.

All this would be useless of course if after watching you had to get up from a cosy bed just to switch off your computer, so DigiTV allows you to do that using the remote too.


First-Time Use (OneForAll Universal Remote Only)

The Nebula DigiTV custom remote control arrives fully set-up so you need only perform these steps if you're setting up a OneForAll unit.

When unpacking the remote control for the first time, you should put the batteries in and follow these instructions to set it up for DigiTV:

  • Press the VCR button and make sure that the red light under it comes on when pressed.
  • Press and hold the MAGIC button. The VCR light should flash once, then twice.
  • Release the MAGIC button.
  • Key in the code 0033. The VCR light should flash twice more.


    Your remote control has now been programmed and is ready for use with DigiTV!


    Starting up DigiTV

    OK now you’re ready to use the remote for the first time, we’ll start up DigiTV with it – you don’t have to use the keyboard or mouse.

    If you own the PCI version, simply point the remote at the IR receiver that's connected to the PCI card and hit the POWER button. If you own the Master USB version, simply point the remote at the DigiTV unit (as the IR receiver is housed internally of the case). You should see DigiTV start up, show a short movie with a couple of stars flashing across the DigiTV logo and then go into Auto-Tune mode.

    When auto-tuning has finished (it can take up to 20 seconds) DigiTV will start showing a programme.

    Press the POWER button once more and DigiTV will shut down. It’s that simple.


    Using the Remote Control

    All of the basic DigiTV functions can be accessed using the remote. Make sure DigiTV is started and the window is a decent size, then press the MENU key.

    When you press the Menu button on the remote the overlay shown below will be displayed.



    This is the main remote control menu and all of the major DigiTV functions can be accessed from this point.

    The following options are available from the remote control main menu:-

  • TV, Radio & Digital Text Channels
  • Auxillary Input Selection (PCI Card Only)
  • Personal Video Recorder Functions
  • Activity Control
  • Settings
  • Exit


    • There is a one-to-one correspondence between each menu item on the remote control overlay menus, and items in the more familiar windows-style drop down menus. In other words, everything you can do with the remote, you can do using the mouse with a minimum of effort. In order to make the screen less cluttered, some of the more minor or technically advanced functions have been omitted from the remote control menu interface.

    You will also notice that the menus are scaled to the size of the DigiTV window so that in full screen mode they are easily readable.

    You don’t need to have a menu active to access some of the remote control functions for example changing the volume or the channel. Just use the dedicated buttons on the remote. Likewise, if you want to instantly start recording a programme hit the REC button and DigiTV will record everything for you.


    Colour Coded Buttons

    Our Nebula Remote Control has been specifically designed to make using DigiTV at a distance as simple as possible. We have therefore provided one touch buttons to allow direct access to some of the most commonly used functions within DigiTV. It is therefore easy to activate Digital text, EPG, Record, Stop or Now and Next displays by simply pressing the Text, EPG, Rec, Stop or 'i' buttons appropriately.

    However, if you are using a OneForAll 4 way remote control with DigiTV you will find that it doesn't have unique buttons for these operations. Instead you will need to press the following buttons to access these features of DigiTV.

    Press the Red button to bring up Digital Text
    Press the Stop button to bring up the Electronic Programme Guide or to Stop Playing a File or Recording.
    Press the Rec button twice to Start Recording a Digital TV/Radio programme.
    Press the Blue button to bring up the Now & Next Overlay
