Analogue Inputs

As well as being able to decode and display Digital Television, DigiTV makes provision for inputting analogue video and audio inputs.

The most common use of analogue signals in this type of application is to use a personal camera and microphone/amplifier combination for video conferencing.

Others may wish to use the facility for security, connected to a camera say, mounted outside by the front door so that if the doorbell rings, you can see who it is. The list of uses is almost endless.

Tip: You can capture still images, just as you can in Digital TV mode (see ‘Frame Capture’)

Audio and Video

On the DigiTV card you will find a yellow composite video connector.

This connection is designed to take a direct line-level video input, ie. video with a peak-to-peak signal level of 1V.

Only the PAL colour system is supported currently, but just about every video device in the UK outputs PAL anyway.

Analogue Input Mode

Changing between Digital TV and Analogue Input modes is very easy; you can do this in the following 2 ways:

  • Using the mouse, you can pull down the File menu and select Video/Audio In Mode, or use the context menu (by right-clicking in the DigiTV window) to do the same thing.

  • With the remote control, bring up the main menu by pressing the Menu key and select the Aux option. Alternatively, if you own the Nebula remote, you can simply press the dedicated Aux button.

  • You'll find that the menu options available to you in Analogue Input Mode are different to those in Digital TV mode.

Tip: If all you can see is a blue screen, you may not have your camera turned on, it may not be receiving power, or it may not be connected to the correct (Yellow) input on the DigiTV card.

    Recording from the Analogue Input

The recording file is set up from the Settings menu and can be started by pressing the R key on the keyboard when in analogue 'Video/Audio In' mode.

N.B. Recording is not possible when DigiTV has been configured to 'Video/Audio Passthrough' mode. You can check/change the analogue input mode you are currently using by going to the 'Analogue Settings page'.

To stop recording, hit the S key on the keyboard, or Stop on the remote control. Recordings are compressed in real-time using the MPEG file format.
