Monday 12th February 2007 In late January 2007, Microsoft launched the newest version of its Operating System, called Windows Vista. This operating system has many advantages over the previous version of Windows (XP), not least being that of enhanced security. However, one of the most visible changes to the user interface has been the introduction of an 'Aero' mode allowing Windows to be stacked behind each other while retaining visibility. The introduction of this new graphical mode has forced Microsoft to abandon support for the hardware chroma-key overlaying of video that has been the mainstay of graphics cards' video presentation since it first appeared on the PC. This has unfortunately meant that the DigiTV application needs modification before it is capable of displaying Video under Windows Vista. Nebula Electronics Ltd has a programme of continuous improvement with respect to its DigiTV system that has stretched back to its first appearance on the market, and continues to this day. The emergence of compatibility issues with Windows Vista was anticipated and we have had a programme of enhancements to take care of this eventuality for many months. The programme of work to ensure Vista compatibility for DigiTV has been amalgamated with several other planned enhancements that were due to be released in the first quarter of 2007 (eg Alpha-blended menus and Digital Text overlays), which means that the application is not yet ready for release. The planned upgrade path is for Windows Vista 32-bit to be supported initially, followed by the 64-bit version of Vista. These updates to the v3.xx versions of DigiTV will be completely free for users to download from our site as soon as they are available. Update 2nd April 2007: The Vista version of the DigiTV-HD application is due for release on or before Monday 16th April 2007 as a public beta. |
