DigiTV is first to support Audio Description for the Visually Impaired.
British multimedia company Nebula Electronics Ltd has announced that its flagship Digital TV reception product – DigiTV - is the first commercially available equipment to support the new Audio Description service provided by the major TV channel operators.
Audio Description is a service intended to help the visually impaired enjoy TV programming every bit as much as sighted people. It takes the form of a narrative describing the visual scene during periods of quiet music or gaps in the dialogue. Currently 4% of UK programmes provide this facility although this will rise to 10% by 2009.
DigiTV is a fully featured Digital Television receiver for use with Personal Computers (PCs) and provides the means to record and playback digital TV programmes using the PC’s hard disk. Its interface has been designed to be both simple to use and comprehensive in function.
DigiTV also currently supports DVB Subtitling for the Hearing Impaired and Digital Text.
