Release Notes DigiTV Application v3.114 Download DigiTV v3.114 End-User License (EUL) |
Due to the huge number of changes made for DigiTV v3.114, it can only be made available via a full installation from either a new distributed CD, or from the download on our website. Future incremental updates can be made using the AutoUpdate feature within DigiTV. There are a number of features in the new version of which users should be aware: Analogue Video & Audio inputs This new version provides the capability to convert and record analogue video on the DigiTV PCI card and analogue audio from the PC's stereo sound input in real-time, compressed MPEG format. MPEG 1/2 conversion of analogue video demands an awful lot of processing power. The software MPEG encoders developed in DigiTV are optimised to utilise MMX where possible, but further optimisation will be made to include SSE and 3DNowExt instructions in the near future. Our tests have shown that a 1.8GHz machine can provide real-time conversion for a 320x240 image with stereo sound, and with further optimisation it should be possible to have full-size video (768x576) encodable in real-time on currently available PCs. The analogue audio conversion and recording facility has been enabled for machines without DigiTV hardware since audio connections are made through an existing sound card. Users in Finland A problem with the MTV3-Digital channel has been identified by some Finnish DigiTV users, and we despatched a team of engineers to Helsinki to find the cause. The results show that the MTV3 channel uses an adaption field type not used by other channels, although it is allowed in the MPEG Transport Stream Specifications (H.222). At present, the DigiTV Transport stream decoder does not support this adaption field format, and video 'blocking' errors result. The length of time needed to code and test for the fix precluded its integration into this version of DigiTV, but work is underway so that the fix will be present in an incremental release in the very near future. Users in Australia DVB-t transmissions in Australia are significantly different from those seen in Europe, largely because of the availability of free HDTV and Digital 5.1 audio. Various problems seen with previous versions of DigiTV in Australia have been addressed, such as pausing live video, but a couple remain. Notable among these are the stuttering of live S/PDIF audio output when put though certain third-party DTS decoders. The fix for this could not be verified in time for this release and so will be included into the next incremental version before v3.5. Next Release As we've learned with previous releases, not all issues will have been spotted by our beta testers so we will endeavour to collect DigiTV users' findings over the next two weeks and make an incremental release shortly afterwards. Please address all bugs found to software@nebula-electronics.com. Our thanks go again to everyone that took part in the beta-test programme for this version, but the following deserve special thanks for going above and beyond the call of duty: Richard Flay, HyperReality (Australia) Murray Tate (Australia) Peter Anthoni (Finland) Thanks again to everyone. Best Regards The DigiTV Development Team. |
